POSITION REPORT TO: Principal Investigator or Designee

POSITION SUMMARY: Performs data archiving, management and analyses for investigators using Unix and Window platforms. Assists investigators in the design, data collection and dissemination of experimental, clinical trial and/or epidemiological studies.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPNSIBILITIES:

Essential Functions:

  1. Develop a wide variety of complex computer programs to meet the needs of the programs.
  2. Test and debug programs, correcting program errors by modifying instructions and sequences.
  3. Write, detail and code program instructions, and prepare organizational materials such as flow chars and research documentation.
  4. Maintain, evaluate and resolve software/hardware problems for research lab environment, and perform normal communication and security maintenance.
  5. Assist in data base design, implementation and maintenance of data collected over time for research purposes, including acquisition, editing, reporting and dissemination.
  6. Perform data analysis and management for investigators using statistical packages including generation of tables and graphs and summary results.
  7. Assist investigators in dissemination of results from experimental, clinical trials and epidemiological studies.

JOB LOCATION/WORKING CONDITIONS: Standard computer working environment.

QUALIFICATION REQUIRED: Windows experiences required. UNIX OS experience desirable, knowledge required. Website management experience. SAS experience and proficiency with data analysis and/or data management. Demonstrated ability to create/modify programs under various levels of pressures and time frames. Experience in biomedical, behavioral, social and/or clinical studies desirable.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent of Bachelor’s degree in computer science with two more years of programming experience. Master’s degree preferred in statistics, mathematics, computer science or related field.

RELATIONSHIP: Internal/external contacts. Works with a supervisor; may work directly with the PI’s collaborators.

SUPERVISORY DUTIES: Minimum; May require supervision of data entry operators and other coders.
